Strutting through the gym doors, what did mine eyes behold?
A room of organized mayhem – grinding, freak dancing, lasers, clouds of fog, green shirts, red shirts, enormous stage platforms and KIIS FM DJ Alex Dreamz.
Last Friday, from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Associated Students and Chapman Radio hosted a “red light, green light” party.
Modeled after a dating social, this party had single attendees sporting green attire and those in relationships wearing red, telling other partiers to stop before showing interest.
“I pre-gamed at 10, threw on a red shirt so people wouldn’t hit on me, and then headed over to the party at 11:30.
I was there till about 2 a.m., when my friend had to leave because she was too drunk to keep dancing,” said a partygoer who wished to remain anonymous because he was drinking underage.
The Mayhem in May party drew in about 200 people.
On the Facebook event, 258 people confirmed that they were going to attend. Although there was no alcohol served at the event, in true collegiate style, many partygoers showed up tipsy.
“As it got later in the night, more people showed up sporadically. The party got pretty intense, especially since it was only a $5 fee to get in,” said senior Aaron Nagato. “I got in for free since I am a senior.”
While some partygoers had an intense night of drinking mayhem, others decided to keep the chaos on the dance floor.
“I don’t drink, so it was easy to just come to the party and have some fun dancing to Ke$ha and Lady Gaga, two of my favorite artists,” sophomore Tiana Barrios said. “My friends and I had a blast and we hope Chapman puts more of these events together.”
